What is a plant-based diet ?

what is plant-beased diet ?
In my latest news letter I told all about how the vibes are dazzling on me. For how very grateful I am the way my food journey takes me, the strength and energy I feel from eating all Plant-based. And did I invite you to hike along with me. To be honest, I felt a bit scared to share my new route at first… But at this moment I’m so happy due to all the great responds from you. Therefor I like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Looking forward to our journey together!

I did notice some questions too, even a bit of confusion.
What is plant based ? Is it the same as being vegetarian or more like vegan ?
What is the difference?

Sounds familiar? No worries as said your not the only one.

When it comes to the three lifestyles there are a couple of key differences between them.

PLANT-BASED DIET
A plant based diet is based on whole foods. Eating fresh veggies, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts and seed. As in the name this dietary lifestyle focus on plant foods rather than on processed- or animal based- foods.
It promotes to eat 100% plants. Honey is used by some.

VEGAN DIET
The vegan diet eliminates the consumption of any form of animal products.
No meat, nor poultry or fish is eaten. No dairy products, no eggs, no honey.

A important note is that being vegan doesn’t necessary mean eating (healthy) whole plant foods. Chips, fries, cookies and soda’s like cola can all be vegan. The food industry has embraced the growing vegan community more and more, therefor vegan junk food is widely available. Being animal free these foods are still loaded with sugar, cheap oils, to much salt and are often very addictive.

VEGETARIAN DIET
Eating vegetarian based generally means no meat but being ok. with dairy products and eggs.
and therefor eating a wider range of products more common to the regular western diet.
There are even peso-vegetarians meaning they include fish in their eating diet. Ultimately vegetarians limit their animal consumption based on what they are comfortable with.

Beyond food vegans take thing even a bit further as they withhold from using animal products at all, incl. clothes, shoes and cosmetics, are against hunting and the use of fur. It is a lifestyle choice involving ethics and politics.

Both, the plant-based and vegan diet lifestyle, stem for the desire for a better health and/or to protect the environment. The intention depends on the individual.
That said, to me the more the merrier, when it comes to this vibrant energy and health way of living. Reducing the earth’s suffering and stimulate the environment protection.
